Is your Terrible Awful clutter secret is a constant pile of dishes in your sink spilling over onto your counters. It’s time to admit your fear of loading the dishwasher properly. Here’s how to do it so the Dishwasher Police won’t find you.
DECLUTTER YOUR KITCHEN SINK
- Prep by gathering cup of tea/coffee or favorite beverage and turning on your favorite music.
- Set Timer.
- LOAD your dishwasher properly
- Pre-rinse off large amounts of food (The newest dishwashers say they do a better job if you don’t scrape or rinse.)
- Load bottom rack first
- Cookie sheets/pots/pans around outside, then large plates inside of those & finish with small bowls in middle
- Load top rack last
- Cups between prongs
- Plastic items
- Don’t stack items
- CYCLE
- HEAVY CYCLE: tea/coffee stained cups, dishes that have been sitting, burned on food even after hand scrubbing
- NORMAL CYCLE: lightly used dishes/cups
- DELICATE CYCLE: to be honest, I’ve never used this cycle but it is for delicate dishes. I prefer to hand wash these.
- SANITIZE CYCLE: after a contagious illness, baby bottles & plastics
- QUICK CYCLE: If you wash your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, — I won’t name names — you only need the heat part of the dishwasher to sanitize. This cycle does this for you.
- CLEAN sink, wipe down your countertops & sweep floor so kitchen is clean when wash finishes.
- UNLOAD
- If you don’t have room for all of your dishes, that is another blog but editing what you don’t use or like will get you started.
HINT: Always load dirty dishes directly into the dishwasher to avoid a sink pile-up.
Dirty dishes attract bugs…yes, those really gross bugs. One roach can lay 40 eggs. Now does that inspire you to keep your sink empty of dirty dishes?
