September 29, 2014Enjoy these hints about fall color from guest blogger, Kerry Yates.
As you start to move your fall/winter apparel & fabulous shoes into the closet & summer out it is also time to start looking at your beauty regimen. Just as you change your clothes for the season so should you revamp both the colors you wear & the products you use. Here is a quick look at the fall trends you should take advantage of now to keep you looking your best.
CHANGING UP THE COLOR
1. NAILS
For summer, we all had a tendency to go a bit bolder. Time to put away the turquoise and coral & get serious about color. The bold new look on nails is deep red, burnished orange, merlot and graphite. The decorated nail look is out unless you want to go for a bold line of black to create a more tuxedo effect. Now is the time to be a bit more minimal with a slight edge.
Beauty Tip: Now this change does not mean you throw away your summer colors. Be sure the lids are tight & place them in a sealed plastic bag. Be sure the bottles are all facing the same direction because once a month you are going to turn them to prevent separation & thickening from happening while you give them a brief hiatus.
2. FACE
Put the bronzer away, don’t even think of using it on your cheeks. Now is the time for subdued hues of olives, maples, cocoa accent with deep coal or midnight for your eyes. Pick one feature on your face to focus on whether the eye, cheeks or lips & leave the rest very subdued.
Beauty Tip: You may want to save your liquid foundations, creamy tints that you used during the summer but these products only have a shelf life of 6 months. Throw them away vs. storing. Trust me you do not want to reuse them later only to end up with a horrific infection.
3. HAIR COLOR
Whether you want it to or not your hair becomes naturally lighter in the sun. Now it is fall & time to liven up your locks. This is especially important because as we lose our tan, the skin becomes lighter. If your hair stays lighter, you tend to look washed out & almost ghost like. So for fall, it is always a good idea to add a little touch of extra tone especially because the hair color trends are fabulous this year. It is all about rich mahoganies, wines and honeys. No, this does not mean you will be turning your hair red. The idea is to take what you have & give it a slight boost or kick as we like to say in Texas. There are many products out in the market that can give your hair a boost of color without looking like you just used color from Crayola:
If using permanent color, be sure to choose a shade that uses “natural” within the descriptor This way you get more of a blended tone vs. a pure tone
Try using a coloring gloss which will give a hint of color over your current base in addition to enhancing your shine
