Rules Eliminate Clutter
November 26, 2012Twelve Days of Tidy Gifts from your Professional Organizer
December 10, 2012I’ve had my Christmas tree up for a week, spent Black Friday in the shopping frenzy, mailed my Christmas cards, attended the town Christmas Tree lighting event & have my first gifts wrapped & under the Christmas Tree. So why do I look at my calendar & “see miles to go before I sleep”? Because my usual jam packed schedule just went from running a marathon to traveling to the moon.
Christmas schedules make me think of going through the buffet line continually adding one more item. At the end of the line, my plate is mile high with food not even a Sumo wrestler could consume. My eyes are definitely bigger then my stomach & calendar. So, this morning while I was running through my home checking off my To Dos, I wondered how Santa would handle my crazy holiday schedule if he wasn’t busy making toys.
1.He’s making a list twice, checking it twice.
There’s something to be said for the List. It a tremendous way to free up your mind from the chatter & let your eyes take in what really needs to be accomplished or is really on the calendar. And do check it twice for items missed or a double booking.
2.Delegate to the Elves
You don’t see Santa making every single toy because no one else can do it as good as he can. I’m sure there was some initial teaching when the elves first started helping & maybe even a few mistakes, but look at them now!
3.Rudolph, won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?
Have backups. Extra pantry items that quickly make into nibbles & desserts for extra or unexpected guests. Wrapped hostess gifts for last minute parties or even the forgotten gift.
4.He sees you when your sleeping
Rest is extremely important this time of year. If you want to make every party, finish your shopping, send out your holiday cards, bake, wrap gifts, make gifts, decorate, put in 40+ hours at work, travel, attend all school functions and not get sick during flu season, you need to get your rest! Try to sneak in a Sunday afternoon nap. It will do wonders.
5.You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout I’m telling you why Santa Claus is coming to town & you don’t want coal. Certain people in your life can cause some serious stress at this time of year, but don’t let them ruffle your feathers. Plan a way to handle an unpleasant person, then activate the plan when needed. It’s like breaking the glass in case of fire. The fire extinguisher won’t put out the fire, but it will allow you time to get out.
