August 15, 2012Organized Crisis
August 27, 2012If you’ve ever been in debt even just a little bit & struggled endlessly to be done with it, then you know the pain and agony of the struggle. Nothing is harder than limiting yourself by a budget. UGH! Every time you want to grab a cup of coffee, buy yourself even some underwear or go thru a drive thru because you are just out of time, you have to think of that *@$#* budget! This is usually when a little self-pity sets in & you either give in or stay strong.
The key to overcoming debt & sticking to a budget is simply changing your habits. Something not so simple to do. Especially when you see other people getting to do what you want to do. Insert pouty face here. We all know it takes 30 days to change a habit…..30 loooong, challenging days. Thirty days where you really don’t like most people because they are getting to do what you want to do.
But when you reach your goal by making the final payment on your debt, you hear angels singing & see a rainbow overhead. A lightheaded, dizziness overcomes you. You become giddy with relief & joy. Stress you had become accustomed to living with has suddenly vanished. You feel 10 to 15 years younger. You start planning your next accomplishment because if you can do this, you can do anything.
This is pretty much how it feels to live with disorganization. Something I had never put together until my client last week pointed it out to me.
Kathleen has had debt in her life so much she has taken a class to overcome it. She knows first hand the misery & stress related to living in debt. Kathleen has also lived with disorganization in her home for the last 5-6 years. Her disorganization has made her miss appointments, unable to find basic household tools, loose money needed to help pay off her debt, loose time with friends & family while she searched for items she needed & much more.
It wasn’t hard for Kathleen to call & schedule my time to organize. It was hard for her to organize & make decisions of what to eliminate. There were struggles we worked through & times she really didn’t want to focus on organizing & decision making. In the end, when the task was complete & we walked through her newly organized, now peaceful, relaxed home, Kathleen had the revelation. “Living with clutter is like living with debt. It just weighs on you, pulling you down without you knowing. And when you finally get out of debt or eliminate your clutter, the huge weight is gone & you feel free because you are.”
Are you ready to be free?….Because Life is Better Organized!
