Spring Cleaning Create Organization
May 11, 2015The Colonial
May 26, 2015I worked with a new, super fabulous client last week organizing both His & Hers into one closet. My first impression of the space was, “not bad”. There was floor space available for me to walk into the closet and stand, the closet was separated between His & Hers proportionately & most like items were together i.e. jackets vs tops. But, as the client expressed, it still felt messy.
Here are the steps we took to whip this wardrobe into shape and make it feel like shopping in a boutique.
-
REMOVAL: We removed all items from the floor & extraneous items from shelves.
-
ADJUSTMENTS: We adjusted the height of the Elfa shelves on both sides to make shelf usable under his top hanging rod of shirts & create much needed long & medium length hanging space for her.
-
SORTED: Like items were sorted together i.e. golf shirts vs dress shirts, skirts vs dresses, blouses vs jackets/cardigans, handbags vs clutches, flip flops vs sneakers.
-
STORED: Off-season items were stored in matching baskets on top shelf and in baskets in guest closet shelves.
-
STYLED: To make the closet look & feel like a boutique, we faced all garment fronts towards the entrance, color-coded each like-item section, used matching containers & mounted hooks on wall for hats & belts.
The closet now looks & feels inviting, relaxing & happy ready to foster many days of creative outfit styling for both Him & Her. Last minute tweaks: client will add matching hangers & clear, acrylic shoe drawers to finish off her stylish new space.
