We spend a lot of money on our prized possession…our handbags. Admit it. When you see the latest handbag you love in the store, you can’t catch the drool at the corner of your mouth fast enough. Your eyes glaze over, your breathing stops, your heartbeat skips and the endorphins flood your body as you slowly circle the counter to claim it as yours.
Then, month’s later, when life gets hectic again, that prized possession is stuffed full….of junk. Empty candy wrappers that were your lifeline in stressful days. Endless wrinkled receipts for fast food, new clothes, kid’s last minute school projects, groceries and take out dinner. Your least favorite lipsticks because you lost your favorite.
If this was your new car you vowed you would never eat in, you would take it to your full service car wash for a full spa session to declutter, clean and bring back the new. You can also bring back the new to your new handbag! You can resurrect that expensive purse to it’s glory status!
Consider decluttering not as a chore, but as self-care for you. You earned the money to pay for the beautiful handbag. Now, continue to reward yourself by following these simple steps to keep it – and you – cared for.
- Use any available pockets your purse offers for your most crucial items like your phone or keys. Start with the exterior pockets as long as they have a zipper closure which you then must zip.
- Use outside snap closure pockets for receipts. Collecting them all in one place makes receipts easy to retrieve at home.
- Use an inside pocket for medications. This keeps them hidden but still easily accessible when you need them.
- Use small cosmetic bags to create pockets. When a bag is short on pockets, create your own with cute cosmetic bags. Use different colors for different items so you can easily find what you need.
- Clean out your handbag each day/week. Depending on how many receipts/notes you add to your handbag each day will help you determine if you should clean it out daily or weekly.
