Stylish Gifts for Dad
June 15, 2015Secret to a Happy Home
July 6, 2015It’s time to celebrate all the positive things America has to offer, all the ways we have changed the world & all the men, women & families who have given of themselves to ensure our freedom.
Who would have thought some strangely dressed people could have crossed a huge ocean, survived disease & a harsh winter to establish a great nation. The sea sickness alone would have had me begging to take me home. But they pressed on toward the finish. They kept their eyes on the prize. They were determined.
It must have felt amazing to step onto Plymouth Rock. – I’ve see it a few times. It’s much smaller now than then. – It must have been just as much a let down after a month at sea to know their journey was not over. There was no one to welcome them with a cozy bed & refreshing shower. Dinner was not waiting for them. The weather was not pleasant. It was November in to be Massachusetts. Brrrrr.
I spent 18th months in Massachusetts. We had blizzards from January to May…I did not mistype. It was miserable, & I was inside with heat. I can’t imagine their conditions. I would have cried Uncle!…anyone’s Uncle just to be warm again.
Those 100 Pilgrims not only boldly went where few had gone before, they fought & persevered in tragic conditions. It was the original American Dream. It took a little help from new friends to get them away from death’s door toward the path of bounty, but they gladly accepted the help of the Native Americans.
Americans still boldly go where few have gone before if at all. We still fight & persevere through tragic situations & conditions. We still accept help from those offering assistance and now, we in-turn, offer assistance back.
It’s a fairly tale, Hallmark story & Hollywood blockbuster movie all rolled into one. It’s our story we share. It’s what makes us all Americans. So take this Saturday to celebrate the 100 who started it all. Happy 4th of July!
