Create a Beautiful Closet for Your Wardrobe
March 20, 2012Easter Dinner
April 9, 2012Ah the linen closet. The place where towels, wash clothes, hand towels, king, queen & twin sheets & blankets, beach towels, pillows and anything else you can shove in there is stored. You might even have your grandmother’s hand-made quilt somewhere in the mix.
Stop the chaos! The linen closet is a place where even a guest can find what they need. Here’s 4 easy steps to make it a closet even Martha Stewart would love.
1.The Matching Game
a.Match sheet & towel sets
b.Group all king sheets together, queen together & on down the line.
c.Group standard pillows vs king pillows together
d.Group blanket sizes together
2.Folding
a.Per your space restriction, create the best way to fold your linens. This effort will:
i.Maximize your space
ii.Create a uniform appearance
3.Location, Location, Location
a.Place most used items like sheets & towels at eye-level
b.Place rarely used items like extra pillows & blankets up high
c.Place moderately used items like throws down low
d.Then label your shelves so everyone knows what’s a king set vs a twin set
4.Don’t Go Overboard…This isn’t a Cruise Ship
a.You only really need a set of sheets on each bed and one in the closet.
b.A blanket for summer & winter.
c.A few extra pillows for guests.
5.Leftovers
a.Any non-linen items that don’t fit, need a new place to live either in your home or someone else’s home.
Scrutinize you linens as you sort & fold them with eyes of a guest. Do they have frayed edges? Are they faded or worn looking? If so, maybe it’s time to let them go for a newer version. Yes…..I just gave you permission to go shopping!
