Don’t be a Fool about Travel
April 1, 2013Organizer’s Heaven
April 15, 2013When searching through my father’s old records for his percussion loves, he played the drums in school, I re-discovered a record my parents had lovingly added to my collection. A gem for small children about politeness & manners written & performed by Nadine Lewis in 1960. After I finished he-hawing, I questioned my mother about why this purchase was made for me. Me such the angelic & perfect child. I really was! My teenage years were maybe a different story…but that’s a different blog.
It occurred to me that no matter what age, we can all use a little helpful Miss Manners reminder when traveling. I think Alec Baldwin has proven that. So here is Nadine Lewis’ fun little poem. And even though it is specific to traveling on a train which we don’t typically do, it transcends to all forms of travel & is wonderful to share with your children no matter their age.

The train is coming hooray hooray!
I’ve packed my favorite toys
We’ll take the train for the Holiday
And I won’t make a noise

I’ll sit in the window seat
I’ll see the cows go by
I’ll stay in my seat and be very good
I will not fuss or cry
The water fountain is very cold
And I may go there once
I won’t run up and down the aisle
And fall down like a dunce
My mother says that when I try
No one can be as good as I
So maybe next time
We can fly
