Kitchen Organizing 101 – Part 1
July 2, 2018Kitchen Organizing 101 – Part 3
July 16, 2018We are back with more industry secrets for organizing your kitchen tools.
Nothing is worse than a kitchen that creates frustration, makes tools hard to use & just doesn’t suit your needs. There are a lot of poorly designed kitchens out there, but with a little creativity, you can outsmart that bad kitchen.
1. Cookie Sheets/Muffin Tins/Cutting Boards all like to be stored in vertical storage if you have it. If not, you can create vertical storage over a refrigerator, microwave or in a tall, lower cabinet. Don’t have any of those? Try storing them in a lower drawer maybe under your oven.
- EDIT: Too many muffin tin sizes can be a disaster to store. Choose your favorite size ( 1 or at the most 2) & let the rest find a good home.
- TRUTH: Cookie Sheets/Muffin Tins & Cutting Boards do not have to be stored together unless you have the space. Cutting Boards work great near the sink where prep work typically happens.
- SECRET: If you have double ovens, make the one only used once a year become a storage location for these items. (Train yourself to check your oven before turning on to make sure nothing is stored inside.)
2. Foil/Plastic Wrap/Wax Paper/Storage Bags/Etc. also prefer to live in a drawer. Why fight some storage contraption each time you need foil. Wouldn’t it be nicer & easier to just open a drawer to access these items?
- EDIT: You only need one of each item in your working drawer at a time. Extra boxes of quart sized storage bags should be stored out of the way in the garage, pantry, utility room or storage closet.
- TRUTH: Unless you have 13 kids, buying these items in bulk from the big box store isn’t worth the few cents saved vs the headache of finding space to store them.
- SECRET: Look for drawers lower down or even under your oven. These are go to items not “OMG I have to have that right now!” items like oven mitts.
Now, you are half way finished restructuring your kitchen from a bad, bankrupt kitchen to a fabulously rich kitchen that suits your needs. Next week’s blog focuses on the all-important coffee/tea stations & prep stations.
