July 21, 2014You’ve made the big & exciting decision to pack-up & move to a new home. If you haven’t tackled the prep work first, you still have time. Cleaning, editing, repairing & updating items in your home is a must to get to top dollar for your home.
Once that is done, you want to stage your home for prospective buyers. “It makes a home appealing to the highest number of potential buyers, thereby selling a property more swiftly & for more money.” Wikipedia
1. PACK Go ahead and pack up extraneous items. A moveable storage box is a great way to store these items. A company will drop the box off at your home & pick it back up storing your box at their temperature controlled facility until you are ready.
- off season clothes
- seasonal decor
- keepsakes
- 50% of kids toys
- out of season sporting equipment
- rarely used items
2. DECLUTTER Evaluate your home for roominess to move, decor clutter/too much decor & personal items. Remove
- furniture encroaching on walkways
- family photos
- everything from front of refrigerator
- anything on countertops & desktops
3. STAGE Think of a model home. They are open, light, bright and airy. You want your home to look & feel the same.
- Move furniture away from doorways to create a wider opening into room
- Accessorize bookshelves sparingly leaving space for items to breath
- Countertops/desktops need a few items show purpose & accessorize
- Add fresh linens to baths & kitchen
- Add fresh decorative pillows to sofas, chairs & beds
- Add unused candles to candle sticks
- Bake cookies for Open House & offer small bottled water
