For Mother’s Day this year and last, I gave my mom the gift of enjoying memories already made. I had a professional transfer our family Super 8s to digital so we could actually see them. The last time the Super 8s made an appearance at Family Movie Night was the spring of 1981.
My dad got down the projector, set up the movie screen in the living room and proceeded to thread the film. In all of these tasks, a blue word or two might have been heard being mumbled out of his mouth. No matter, we still excitedly gathered in the living room with our popcorn, real cokes – no diet – and anticipation of seeing ourselves from years past on the giant screen. Back in those days, my family only had an 11” TV so the movie screen was gigantic in comparison.
Our popcorn gone, cokes half empty, we waited…..and waited. Finally, after 2 more rounds of popcorn, we were ready to see the show. And what a show! We laughed, squealed, joked, teased and laughed some more. It was truly a family bonding moment reliving those memories and hearing background stories to the action unfolding.
This time, once the package arrived from Red Boots Photo Organizing, setting up the Family Movie Night was incredibly easy. I plugged the flash drive into the oversized, smart TV and hit play. The reactions were the same but with less popcorn consumed. It was well worth every penny!
With graduations, family vacations, backyard BBQs, Father’s Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day and the first day of school all ahead of us, why not give the gift of enjoying memories already made? You don’t need to gift it to anyone other than you and your family because you deserve it!
