Fourth of July
June 22, 2015Jewelry Organizers: The Art of Displays
July 27, 2015Is your life consumed with household needs, kids activities, work, meals, shopping, vacations? Does your life feel like your running from every dinosaur in Jurassic World. (If you haven’t seen it yet, some of those people didn’t fare too well.) The world isn’t slowing down. Activities are picking up. We all want to do more each day. How can you be the Super Human you want to be?
There’s a little secret to getting most tasks checked off the every growing To Do List. It’s been around for decades, well, really since the beginning of time. Adam & Eve started it so blame them. Your parents used it. Your grand-parents used it and so on…. The animal kingdom uses it! Don’t believe me on that one? Watch thisYouTube video of a mother raccoon . Let’s call her Super Sally.
Super Sally is trying to teach her little bundle of joy how to climb a tree. It’s a basic need for survival in the Raccoon world. I thought it might be really natural for the baby to just start climbing the tree. Wrong. Super Sally struggles to get Jr. to understand, have a desire, stop relying on her and be interested in climbing this tree. She tries at least 5 different ways to get Jr. to latch on & move upward.
– She gently urges him to climb while he throws his body backwards in her arms
– She regroups taking a moment to herself to scream silently into space & starts process from another location while he acts as if he isn’t able
– She tries to show him by example but he won’t pay attention or get it
– She flings his body toward the tree as he goes limp
– Finally, straddling tree & house, she plants his body against the tree & holds him there until he latches onto the tree. The climbing begins…sllooooooooowwwllyyyyyy.
How frustrating, aggravating, tiring & just plain stupid all this work must seem for Super Sally. But Jr must learn to climb that tree. His life depends on it.
So what’s the secret being used since the beginning of time? Training your children to help with family tasks. Seriously, you can’t do it all by yourself. Their lives might not depend on learning how to do the dishes, but days are too short to do it once let alone keep up with the constant mess-makers. Everyone has to contribute. It saves you from the asylum. There aren’t enough spa days, massages or yoga classes that will keep you from going crazy with frustration from lack of help.
If Super Sally can teach her little one, so can you. Your sanity & stylish life depends on it.
