Twelve Days of Tidy Gifts from your Professional Organizer
December 10, 2012Project Pitfalls
January 28, 2013With all the New Year’s Resolutions made, there are bound to be some that might involve enlisting or hiring assistance. But how do you know if you should? Well, let’s take a look at a few things to help you make an educated decision.
1.Can you realistically pull it off? When it comes to DIY, here is the difference between realistic & fantasy – Your project is either an episode of Grey’s Anatomy where you are saving lives & taking names (not without a few mess-ups) or I Love Lucy making homemade bread that grows to be 10 feet long …. or really any episode. If you haven’t seen that one, her you go.https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/ilovelucy/video/GreatScenes/BakingBread
2.Have your seriously considered the time commitment involved? Consult with the expert in that field to discover how much time they would invest in the project. Then double that if you take it on. Even if your project is to workout & get in shape. Without a Trainer, your transformation will take longer to achieve.
3.How much will the project cost? The cost of any DIY project is your time (Monthly Income-Work Expenses divided by Hours You Work & Commute) + materials. What will it cost if I become injured i.e. sprain ankle while working out? If you don’t consider your hourly wage, you are not looking at the total cost.
4.The Joy Factor. Be honest. How much time will you truly enjoy working on this project & how much time will be spent being frustrated? Will you keep it up if you don’t have someone motivating you & holding you accountable?
Once you’ve really answered these questions, you’ll know the right way to proceed. And don’t forget, if you do hire an expert to tackle the project, there will still be plenty of opportunity to be involved. You have to make all of the decisions. Now that’s hard work!
