Organize Space Creatively
October 21, 2013Love Your Wardrobe?
November 4, 2013Before you block me out because you think this is too difficult, let me say, this is a concept you learned in Kindergarten. Put things away where they belong. If five year olds can do it, so can you.
You might already be doing this but at the wrong time. For example, dinner is over so you take your plate to the sink & walk away. This is not putting things away where they belong. The dirty dishes belong in the dishwasher unless you wash by hand. Think of it this way, you would never leave mounds of trash out on the countertops or on the floor. Why, then, do you resist putting each item back in it’s little home when you are done using it? Everyone & everything like to be home.
It all comes down to how you want to spend your time. You can either spend your time searching for the item you need or you can spend your time putting items away when you are done using them.
If doing it right at that moment is hard for you, then take the “End of the Day” approach. At the end of the day, spend 30 minutes putting things away at your desk or in your home. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3…
1. Start by putting like things together which is the definition of sorting. For more detail on how to do this, check back to the 5 Main Steps to Organization blog.
2. Move like items to their home – your matchy-matchy containers. The Stylish Organization blog will show you examples. In this case, matchy-matchy is excellent.
3. Because your matchy-matchy containers are Labeled so clearly, finding where items should go is quick & easy.
Maintaining organization in your home or at your office is simply a decision you maketo give yourself time to take care of you. If you ever have a dreadful feeling about entering your home or office, it’s time to give that space the respect it deserves by decluttering & then maintain your hard work.
