July 15, 2013Technology Overdrive
July 27, 2013I was reading a book about famous Texas homes the other day. The pictures were really the reason I purchased the book, but it turned out to be extremely interesting. Beautiful homes, the architects that designed each home, their background, how they came to use the design aesthetic chosen for each project, the people whom the homes were intended and what they were looking for in a new home.
About mid-way through the book, one of the clients told his commissioned architect to outfit the new family home with every new technology available and those to come. That home was built in 1930. Then it struck me that all of the architects in the book started their lives before the turn of the 20th century…in the late 1800’s! Oh the changes in technology they experienced; indoor toilets, electricity, telephone, the automobile, planes and more. I wondered how many of them quickly embraced the changes and how many reluctantly moved forward.
Then it made me think of all the technology changes in the past 4 years; texting, iPod, Nano, smartphones, iPads, Facebook, Twitter, Instogram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, apps, blogging, Nook, watching a movie on your laptop, navigation in my car, my car dialing my phone……. How do you keep up? How do you decide which to incorporate? How do you incorporate them all? Should you even do that? And most importantly, how do you stay sane?
It is important to embrace new technology into your life but at a pace that suits you. But how to know where to start? Which technology is first? I always like to start small. Start with something that helps you make life easier & more efficient. I am a Professional Organizer!
