PANTRY TIPS: The 4 Secrets to Fantastic Food Storage
February 17, 2015The Oscars’ Top 10 Men’s Fashions
March 2, 2015It’s the big night. Almost as big as the night before Christmas. The anticipation for the winners of the Oscars & and the winners of fashion is electric. My mom & I watch it together every year deciding whose dress makes the cut…… at least in our eyes.
Our credentials? I have a degree in fashion & love beauty. Mom picked my dad & he was handsome so obviously she also has an eye for the good-looking. Our criteria? The dress removes flaws making the wearer the most beautiful they can be.
So we give you our top 10 Best Dressed because no one needs to be told they picked poorly. So the Oscar in fashion goes to…..
10. Octavia Spenser in Tadashi Shoji shows real women how to go to the ball. This light as air spring green is a elegant color that highlights her skin tone. Her cleavage is properly tamed & the draping slenderizes while accentuating. With an elegant chignon, we enjoy her dress, beautiful face & amazing jewelry.
9. Chloe Grace Moretz in Miu Miu is sophisticated, fun, flirty & feminine. Her hair is young & romantic. Her pink lips innocent yet flirtatious. The pockets, well that’s genius but a woman did design the gown.
8. Laura Dern in Alberta Ferretti is the perfect dress for her. She needs the boldness of this dress to keep her flighty nature channeled. The shaping at the bust, waist & along the hips creates a bombshell shape or just highlights the fact she has one. The necklace is definitely for Hollywood royalty. Her hair controlled but sexy.
7. Marion Cotillard in Dior is the drama winner of the night. Being French, Marion needs a dress with more style, more creativeness & more mystery. This dress is that & more. The tailored black-band bustle & straight shape is a mix of the late 1800’s bustling design & 20’s flapper girl; intrigue & daring stitched together. Viola!
6. Meryl Streep in Lanvin is finally red carpet worthy. Perfect for her status as a three time Oscar winner & always nominee. This is a commanding look & fresh interpretation of a tuxedo; nothing is more alluring. She is as beautiful on this red carpet as we know her in her movies.
5. Felicity Jones in Alexander McQueen could be overwhelming but the combination of ballgown skirt hinting of the Victorian era + high fashion bodice accentuating her shoulders & leading your eye straight to her delicate face is the perfect balance between elegant, sweet & daring. The silvery color makes sure you notice Felicity in the dress not the dress on Felicity.
4. Reese Witherspoon in Tom Ford is the start of a new trend. The beautiful curved, off-the-shoulder neckline accentuates her face instead of your eyes getting stuck looking at her cleavage. She has a habit of starting trends; remember the short, yellow dress in 2007 or the ombre gown the same year both Nina Ricci? This is another trend started effortlessly by a woman of true style.
3. Juliana Moore in custom Chanel Couture looks fresh, sophisticated, feminine & sexy. This dress matches her personality. Anything but the fun black & white flowers would have been heavy & boring. The flowers reflect her dancing smile. The side-swept chignon keeps your focus on the dress, her figure & that blossoming smile.
2. Cate Blanchett in custom Maison Margiela with Tiffany turquoise necklace is deceptively simple. What you might miss in the picture is the rich, silk, black velvet, elegant open back & fraying around the arms & back openings which give it a slight edge. Cate understands her beauty is so powerful she can choose an understated gown to balance that beauty. Wearing semi-precious stones in-place of precious only adds to the chic effect.
1. Rosamund Pike in Givenchy Haute Couture. This is an amazing dress because it is simple, dramatic, sophisticated, feminine & the perfect shade of red. No one does red like Givenchy. She is tall enough to carry the fabric, floral detailing & instead of a revealing, strapless neckline, the slight upward curve moves the eye up to her softly, glowing face & effortless hair. You see her, her figure & the message; I am a confident, sexy, graceful, beautiful woman. And who doesn’t want to convey all that in the blink of an eye?
Thank you to Noel West of the New York Times for the beautiful photography. You’ll say none of these celebs have any bad parts to hide. That’s the beauty of picking the right dress. It eliminates the flaws by letting your beauty shine through.
