Planning for a vacation doesn’t have to be hard or take that much time if you are armed with a good checklist. We are sure that any time you invest in the up front planning will pay dividends with a fantastic getaway that you and your loved ones will remember for years and years to come!
- Don’t know where you want to go this year? Do some research and make the decision together. If everyone is interested in the destination, it is sure to be a memorable trip!
- Make a list of all the sights you want to see once you reach your destination. Travel books can come in handy when deciding where to stay, where to eat and what to see in each location. One of our favorite places online to do travel research is TripAdvisor.com. We have just recently discovered VisitACity.com (with free companion app). It has easy to modify itineraries for major cities and all you have to do is plug in the duration of your trip. It is so good we are definitely using it to plan our next trip!
- If you will be traveling overseas, does every member of the family have their passport, and if so, are the passports up to date? Click here for U.S. Passport details. Use this handy checklist for preparing for international travel.
- If you plan to visit long-distance relatives, try to include some “tourist” stops to make it feel like a true vacation. Your relatives may even want to meet you at one of the tourist attractions!
- Tell your kids to start saving money now for spending during the vacation. This helps them start learning about budgeting for a trip.
- Do a check of your family’s luggage to make sure it’s in good condition (no broken zippers, handles, etc…) and purchase any required accessories (packing cubes, travel laundry bags, etc…) so that you aren’t scrambling at the last minute to organize your packing.
We can’t wait to hear where you are headed on your next vacation…and be sure to let us know if you have any items to add to our handy checklist!
