Love Your Wardrobe?
November 4, 2013Wardrobe Love Continues
November 18, 2013Starting to love your wardrobe again can seem a daunting task especially if your closet floor is covered in said wardrobe. Where do you start? How do you start? Why do you want to start??!!
Well, that last one is a very good question. Here’s the answer. You drool over every magazine picture & TV show that has a boutique closet. You dream about someone creating a space where you “go shopping” when dressing. You love the feel of a nice department store, how each designer has their own boutique & wish your closet looked the same.
It has nothing to do with the cost of the items in those pictures, on the TV or in the store. It has everything to do with how the space is set-up & maintained. So…….what do you need to do you ask? I’m so glad you asked.
1. Prepare Being a Girl Scout taught me to always be prepared. How do you prepare to Love Your Wardrobe? You will need:
a. A box of trash bags for donations
b. Snack to keep you fueled
c. Water to stay hydrated
d. Boxes/containers for sorting
e. Labels for those boxes/containers
f. Music to keep you going
g. A helper if you can
2. Remove
a. Get rid of everything on your floor. You want to clear the space so you can see what is properly hanging & properly folded. And so you won’t fall off the mountain of clothes on the floor. A trip to the ER at this point is not a good way to start.
b. Remove non-wardrobe items i.e. lamps, household decor, keepsake items, gift wrapping & gifts, pillows, linens, luggage, children’s clothes (they have their own closet), etc. Basically, anything that is not your clothing or accessory item needs to be removed from your wardrobe closet.
i. If when you are finished organizing this closet, you still have some space, you can re-look at adding some of these non-wardrobe items back in. Until then, they are banished from your wardrobe closet.
3. Relocate
a. Find a new home for non-wardrobe items
b. Relocate your children’s clothes to their wardrobe closets
At this point, you might want a break. This initial step can be overwhelming simply because you are at the start of the project. Walking away for 30 minutes can help you recharge your mind for the next phase; Sorting. Check back next Monday for sorting tips & tricks.
I’m here to help you by disclosing my knowledge of how to organize & be prepared for any situation.
