Every season there are some crazy trends that show up on the runways from NYC to London and Paris. You just have to wonder what world the designers are actually living. For those of us who live in a world of running endless errands, sneaking in date night/girls night/me time in-between PTA/soccer/school activities, here are the fall fashion trends to make you look fabulous doing all of that.
PRINTS
-
Western (or the chic term – Prairie)
For some of us, this is already a staple & the fashion industry is catching up to us. To make it fresh, wear a floral, flowy blouse with your jeans & boots or a floral, floaty dress.
-
Animal Print
Small florals not your thing? Opt for the animal print…any of them will do either head to toe or a single item. Here’s an out-of-the-box option that’s easy to dress up or down.
-
Plaid
Feeling more traditional? Opt for a tweed plaid which is always in for fall. A cute tweed blazer with your skinny jeans is a winner. Want to be daring? Think of Clueless plaid – bright colored plaid – or very traditional but bold English, Prince of Wales plaid.
COLOR
-
Red, Fuchsia & Brown
Fall is usually the time for your jewel tone colors but this year, the focus is on 3 specific colors. The key is to wear one color or varying shades of the color head to toe. You do this with black and even white without thinking about it. An easy way to do this color trend is with a dress in one of the 3 trend colors. But, start by shopping your closet for tops & bottom in the same color family like this example from Zara.
-
Shine
The glitz this fall is in patent shine, holographic sheens that look like an oil spills & silver, beaded items. The runways show an all over look for each of these, but having just one item on your person like a rich navy patent bag will do the trick. And if you could make the bag oversized, you’ll tap into another trend.
EXTRAS
-
Luxury Fringe
Think of the 20’s when you think of this fringe. It’s glamorous, expensive looking, girlie & fun. Don’t think of western, bohemian or earthy. This luxury fringe is none of those.
-
Ruching
Ruching is a wonderfully, glorious tailoring technique that helps solve all body shape imperfections. Have it in a skirt, dress or just the bottom of your sleeve to add interest to any outfit.
-
Layering
Layering is always key here in Texas since the weather can vary 20-30 degrees from morning to night. And, it’s aways fun in the fall to layer a jacket over a sweater over a shirt. Leave the multi-coat layering to the runway models. Here’s a new way to layer shirts for a polished, casual look.
-
Leather
This is an easier trend that you think. A leather sleeve on a shirt or jacket is all you really need. If you want to be more daring, try a leather dress or pants. Just try them! I love this faux leather skirt with the trash-bag waist with tie. It’s perfect with a T-shirt & tall boots or booties. Then you can dress it up for date night.
There are more trends you can find from all of the different designers but these are the most obvious and easiest to incorporate. Before heading to the store, shop your closet. You just might have one or two items already.
