Set Your 2017 Calendar for Success

Resolutions. Better Living. Family Time. Friend Time. Hot Body. Healthy Living. Expanding Mind. Adventures. Successes. Improving Surroundings. New Experiences. Protecting Memories. Living

These are the things on everyone’s list for living a better life resolution or not. If you want to actually make these happen, you’ll set yourself up for success through Calendaring.

Calendaring is the act of setting up your calendar for the whole year. It sets you up for success in the futures because it creates reminders throughout the year of what you want to accomplish, protects the time it takes to achieve your accomplishments & shows you exactly how much time you can allot to creating your achievements.

To start Calendaring, choose colors for different areas of your life. Digital calendars make selecting a color for an entry very easy. Here’s an example:

• Medical = Blue
• Family = Yellow
• Friends = Orange
• Kids = Choose a color that fits each child
• Household = Green

Now, add the following things to your calendar in this order giving each entry it’s assigned color:

1. Family Vacations
2. Friend Vacations ie. annual girls weekend trip
3. Holidays & when you will decorate for that holiday
4. Birthdays/Anniversaries
5. Special family events/occasions/celebrations i.e. annual family reunion
6. Special friend events/occasions/celebrations i.e. monthly brunch, annual gift exchange
7. Kids school schedule
8. Kids extra activities
9. Yearly doctor visits..don’t forget your pets
10. Household Maintenance i.e. changing A/C filter, changing smoke detector batteries
11. Any daily/weekly/monthly/yearly item specific to you and/or your family
12. Trash Pick-Up Day – it is important so you don’t miss it
13. Any annual business trip/event/occasion outside of business hours i.e. conferences

Then, review your calendar for the year, months and each week to spark your memory of what was left out & add those items. Finally, you can step back to see where there are open times or even open weekends each day/week/month. Those are the moments to fill with your projects, workouts, organizing, cleaning, improving, trying, cooking, shopping, golfing, planning, scrapbooking…
