Find Your Fashion Groove

Finding new, exciting ways to wear clothes in your closet every day can be exasperating, overwhelming, tedious & downright not fun some days.  At the start of each new season, everyone weighs in on the “new looks” you should adopt; magazines, blogs, morning shows, department stores, in home retailers, boutique stores even the Wall Street Journal.

You quickly decide which looks are for you.  Which looks you know you can pull off.   Which looks highlight your personality.  Which looks you think are probably already in your closet – cha-ching, that’s the money-saving secret!  You set to work.

An hour later, you are still standing in your skivvies staring at the clothes in your closet wishing you had something remotely cute to wear.  You’ve already had on a hundred outfits all wrong for one reason or another

jacket too long

colors not right together

sweater too short

needs a belt, top doesn’t fit right

don’t have the new style of boot

just need another piece to make this outfit amazing

love this piece but have absolutely no idea how to wear it

You give up.  You put on a basic, mundane outfit worn a hundred times.  Tomorrow the creative genie will strike.  Today, you just need clothes.

At the beginning of October, I tweeted & posted on Facebook three different outfits daily showing new fall trends for casual, work & evening using one key garment in each of the three looks.  I knew some would be liked more than others.  What I didn’t know is that few would believe all the clothes used came out of my own closet.  Once everyone knew they were my clothes, the same question popped out, “Can you do that in my closet?”.

Absolutely!  I love finding fashionable outfits with what you already own.  Sometimes you just need a fresh set of eyes to bring life back to your wardrobe or a little push forward toward the current trends if you’ve been lagging behind.  Maybe you were on autopilot & need help getting your groove back.  It all comes down to taking what you have, reinterpreting it for today & documenting it for quick/easy reference.
