Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer….. so many wonderful Christmas movies to watch from Thanksgiving to Christmas day and after. I love each and every one. Tear jerkers or belly jigglers, all have quotable lines or a famous song like “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” from Meet Me in St. Louis. Bet you didn’t know that one! And Judy Garland sings it beautifully.
While wrapping gifts, I stumbled upon the original version of Miracle on 34th Street on AMC with the beautiful & talented Natalie Wood playing Virginia. Most of the time, I’m so caught up watching Natalie, other important parts of the movie pass by me. But this night, I happened to look up from my wrapping in time to see a conversation between Kris Kringle & Virginia’s mom played by Maureen O’Hara. She frustratedly said to Kris that Christmas is just a day. He disagreed with her saying, “Christmas isn’t just a day, it’s a frame of mind.”
Holiday hustling, bustling can change anyone’s merry little attitude to a bah humbug state of mind. But this is the time of year to celebrate the miracle of love; love of family, love of our maker, love of friendships. Even Scrooge realized it’s better to show love & acceptance than pout over past grievances. All celebrations no matter what your beliefs have this at their core. What a wonderful miracle & you don’t even have to be on 34th Street.
