Make Moving Easy: Prep

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It’s that time of year – lazy days by the pool, heat, humidity, watermelon, afternoon movies, Six Flags & moving.  Wait…what?!  Yes, summer is the busiest time of the year to move to a new home or off to college.  If it’s on your agenda this summer or even this year, I’ve got some keys pre-steps to make moving easier.

1. EDIT    If you are even entertaining the idea of moving, now is the time to start editing items in your home a little at a time.

•     books
•     clothes
•     linens
•     files
•     bath products
•     the garage
•     storage units
•     the attic
•     furniture

2. REPAIR   Anything not working perfectly needs to be attended to and repaired or replaced.

•     light switches
•     outlets
•     window locks
•     blinds
•     AC unit
•     flooring
•     wallpaper
•     appliances
•     ceiling fans
•     plumbing

3. UPDATE  Update items in your home that will give you the biggest return on your investment

•     blinds
•     countertops
•     carpet
•     paint
•     light fixtures
•     house numbers on home

4. CLEAN/REFRESH  No one wants to buy your dirt.  Scrub every inch of your home.

•     baseboards
•     inside of drawers/cabinets
•     ceiling fans
•     top ledges
•     crown molding
•     windows – inside & out
•     garage
•     cobwebs from, well, everywhere
•     appliances – inside & out
•     paint touch-ups
•     flooring
•     bathrooms – sanitize
•     kitchen backsplash

5. SHOP  Your competition that is.  Other homes in your neighborhood on the market are your competition.  It is how Realtors determine the price/square foot for your home.  So you know what your home is being compared to, tour neighborhood homes on the market.  See the competition with your own eyes .
