Baby It’s Cold Outside
March 3, 2014Reclaim Your Home After Company
March 17, 2014As I house-sit for a very dear friend & enjoy her impeccable taste for furnishing her home, I am reminded that the current trend in home decor & fashion is “complement”. Gone are the days of matching your handbag to your shoes, your toes to your nails, wood finishes on every item of furniture, eras or styles of decor. Matchy-matchy is just not in. Finding a common thread or theme between garments or home decor that complement one another creates a more sophisticated style that is far more interesting to the eye.
Except when it comes to organizing.
To eliminate clutter or even the look of clutter, the easiest thing you can do is store all of your items in matching containers. It will instantly eliminate 80% of the look of clutter. The matching containers become your foundation or the backdrop to your things. Because they are matching, the containers fade into the background allowing you to easily see the space and what is stored.
Matching drawer organizers in the photo above is a perfect example. The scarves stored are all different, bright & busy. Because the drawer organizers are all the same, the scarf of choice is easily found.
Matching hangers. There are pros & cons to every type of hanger. You can’t go wrong selecting a style of hanger unless it doesn’t match your current ones. There is nothing that will clean-up your closet faster than matching hangers.
Matching bins. A playroom full of toys immediately becomes less chaotic when toys are put away in matching containers. Fun labels allow you to easily find what is in each container.
Lots of stores have inexpensive matching containers. But, I’ll bet you have a selection right in your home. They might be spread out into different rooms. Collect your matching containers together and tackle a small closet. See if adding matching containers to one space in your home or office doesn’t make it look like a magazine spread.
I’m here to help you by disclosing my knowledge of how to organize & be prepared for any situation.
